At Revival Kitchen, their loyal guests never have to worry about a lack of pleasure.  That’s because owner/head chef Quintin Wicks has a disciplined approach to his menu and hospitality.
“Everything is made from scratch, but it’s also served in a non pretentious way.  Flavorful, creative, and casual,” said Wicks. 

You wouldn’t think a restaurant in Reedsville, PA would become a destination, but it has. 

Some of their regular diners drive 1-2 hours because they simply can’t find the kind of quality they experience at Revival anywhere else. 

Problem: Stability


There are few things more frustrating for restaurant employees than having your POS system crash.  Unfortunately, Revival was experiencing this problem with regularity.  When they first opened, it wasn’t quite as painful since they were new and not as busy.  When their system froze and needed a reset, the 4 minutes it took was more of a nuisance.  But as word of mouth spread and their numbers grew, that annoyance became a full blown crisis.   

“Chaos.  It was total chaos when our POS would stop working.  We couldn’t send orders, print receipts, or process payments.  We were promised an offline mode, but that never really worked either.  My staff and I would get extremely anxious because we knew we couldn’t maintain our standards.  It’s the worst feeling when you disappoint your guests because of bad technology,” said co-owner Liz Hoffner.

The Solution

The problem Revival experienced is one that’s been plaguing the restaurant industry forever.  Which is why the first thing Brigade Society prioritized was developing the most reliable point of sale system for restaurants. 

This was achieved in 2 ways:

  1. Constant and Continuous Connection
  2. Dedicated Environments

Constant Connection

– In order to ensure their clients never lose connection, Brigade devised a completely unique approach that doesn’t require the restaurant to have an internet connection.  Because of the LTE enabled Cradlepoint Router they supply, their customers are always connected.  There is no “offline mode” because they never have to worry about being offline.

“It’s been 4 months since we started using Brigade and it’s never crashed or lost connection.  We were averaging 5-10 breakdowns per week with our old system, so to say it’s made an impact is quite the understatement,” said Hoffner.

Dedicated Environments

– Another completely unique approach Brigade chose was to provide each customer with their own dedicated server, database, and LTE data account.  It’s an added cost they absorb, but one that’s more than justified. 

“What I didn’t fully appreciate was how much stress I was experiencing from always worrying about our technology.  It wasn’t until a few weeks after we switched that I started to notice how much more relaxed I felt.  It’s made running service a lot more fun,” said Wicks.
